Antistatic Agent

Antistatic agents are additives that reduce or eliminate static electricity buildup on plastic surfaces. Plastics like polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene (PP) are naturally insulating, so they accumulate static charges easily leading to dust attraction, handling issues, or even sparks in sensitive environments. These agents work by increasing surface conductivity, often through hygroscopic (moisture-attracting) molecules that dissipate charge.
They are widely used in packaging (especially electronics packaging), automotive interiors, and consumer goods. Applications include films, trays, and housings where dust attraction or electrostatic discharge (ESD) could be problematic. Advantages include improved cleanliness, safety, and product protection, though performance can depend on humidity and may diminish over time (migration-based systems).
